Sale of Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 3146 Sheep comprising 1076 Cast Ewes and 2070 Prime Lambs. A larger show of 2070 Prime Lambs sold with all types dearer on the week Averaging 325p or 329p SQQ. Top Price of the day was £180 on two separate occasions, firstly for a pen of Texel’s off Messrs Shennan, Knockgerran and then for another pen of Texel’s this time off Mrs Shona Paterson, Kayshill and Top Price Per Kilo being 372p for a Smart pen of Beltex off Knockgerran again. Knockgerran sold 115 Lambs to Average £162 Per Head or 343p.

1075 Cast Ewes & Rams sold today at Ayr. The largest show seen here for some time did not affect the trade. Again, the best in short supply meeting a huge demand with lean hill Ewes being plentiful and met a little resistance. The whole lot averaged £115 including 467 Blackfaces. J & M C Wilson, Barneil led the day’s proceedings averaging £290 with Blackfaces from Helen Fleming, Cronberry leading the Tups at £182. Mules sold to £242 for Cheviot Mule sold by A & I Laird, Cairncurran whilst J.H Logan & Co, Dalfask led the Scotch Mules at £176 for a pen of 15. The Limonds at Knocknaib sold the top of the Hill Ewes achieving £182 for Cheviots with Blackfaces to £182 from National Museum, Kittochside.
